On Tuesday the Runnymede Junior School Chess club and some children from Year 7 represented the school in the Aldovea Open Chess Tournament. There were eight schools taking part with 140 children from Year 4 to Year 7 in total. Mr Rouco, who runs the very popular after school Chess Club, took five teams with five children in each team.
We are very proud to report that Runnymede took both first and second place (our teams A and B), the others also came up high in the ranking.
There were medals for all, books for the second place and a magnificent trophy for the first place which will be shown in our assemblies and the children congratulated. Runnymede will have to return next year to defend its’ title!
