RC Admissions Policy

General

Runnymede College is a selective entry school.

Pupils admitted to the School should show good potential. We expect Runnymede pupils to be capable of attaining the following scores and grades:

  • 2b at the end of Key Stage 1;
  • 4 at the end of Key Stage 2;
  • 6 at the end of Key Stage 3 and
  • 8 IGCSEs grades A* to C at the end of Key Stage 4.

Pupils graduating from Runnymede College should be capable of gaining admission to a good British university. In general the admissions procedure will include the following:

  • Written assessment and where possible a personal interview.
  • Previous year's school reports and evidence of any public exams taken.
  • Confidential reference from previous school.
  • Where relevant, psychologists' reports.

Written assessment should aim to establish the following:

  • Standard of the applicant's English.
  • Standard of the applicant's Mathematics.
  • Applicant's IQ.
  • Any SEN.

All applicants must be the "right age for the class". The cut off date, as in schools in UK, is August 31st.

Admission to the Junior School

  • Enrolment of pupils under the age of three. Enrolment of pupils under the age of three will only be admitted on a provisional basis. The pupils will only be admitted to the school once they have been assessed by the school psychologist and /or Foundation Stage staff. Prospective parents should therefore make other provisional arrangements in case pupils are not admitted after screening. Siblings of pupils currently at the school will be given priority providing the result of screening is positive.
  • Foundation Stage. Where possible applicants should be brought in to spend a morning in Nursery or Reception in the spring before they are due to join Runnymede so that the class teacher can form an opinion as to the child's suitability.
  • KS1. Applicants will do a written test in English and Mathematics (and an IQ test if they are seeking admission to Year 2) either here or at their current school.
  • KS2. Applicants will do a written test in English and Mathematics and an IQ test either here or at their current school. If the pupil is coming from a British school into Year 3, and has taken SATs we may waive the English and Mathematics tests if a Level 2b has been achieved in both subjects.

Admission to the Senior School

  • KS3. Applicants will do a written test in English and Mathematics and an IQ test. If the pupil is coming from a British school, to Year 7, and has taken SATs we may waive the English and Mathematics tests. Level 4 will be the minimum requirement.
  • KS4. Applicants will do a written test in English and Mathematics and an IQ test. If the pupil is coming from a British school and has taken SATs we may waive the English and Mathematics tests. Level 6 will be the minimum requirement.
  • Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13). Pupils entering the Sixth Form are expected to have five IGCSE at grades A* to C including English, Mathematics, a Science subject, History or Geography and a modern foreign language. Pupils should have obtained a grade B or better in the subjects they will be doing at AS level. This is the bare minimum as the school is typically looking for pupils entering year 12 with a minimum of eight IGCSEs.

NB. Applications from pupils who have been expelled from other schools will not be considered.
