Madrid League Baseball

Madrid League Baseball in conjunction with the American School of Madrid (ASM) and the Community of Madrid invites children aged 5 to 17 to come out and learn the game of baseball, play the game, and have fun.

The Clinic: The date is Saturday Feb 18. If you were in either Senior Kid Pitch or Machine Pitch last year your session will start at 13:30 sharp. Please arrive early especially if you are registering on that day itself. If you were in Tee Ball or Coach Pitch last year please plan on arriving by 15:00. The clinic will last about 2 hours per session. We will run the players through some drills and make up the teams that same day.

If the weather is bad on the 18th, the makeup date will be Saturday Feb 25.

Registration: There will be a registration table set up at ASM Monday and Tuesday Feb 6/7, and Monday and Tuesday 13/14 from 15:45 to 16:30. If you can't make it to ASM to register you can register in person on the clinic day itself.

Paper Cranes for Japan

We have all been horrified by the tragedy that has struck Japan with the Tsunami. We felt that a calamity of this proportion shouId find some response among our students, if only to raise their awareness of such natural disasters and the havoc they cause.
In keeping with a dignified Japanese abhorrence of asking for money (and also, because we don't want to tax parents' wallets any further), we thought that our response should be symbolic rather than monetary. We did a short workshop with the children of Years 5 and 6 making origami cranes.

Why cranes? Cranes are sacred creatures in Japanese culture. According to ancient legend, anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish - like long life or recovery from illness - by a crane.

The workshop, conducted by 9 mothers (who spent arduous hours before mastering the art of making paper cranes using YouTube tutorial videos!), was instructive, didactic and entertaining for the children and helped create a strong sense of solidarity for the suffering of the stoic Japanese people.

Mr. Hunter, Mr. Fisher, Ms. Dolby, Ms. Barr and Ms. Isaacs were very sporting too, folding up their sleeves and getting to work, encouraged by Mr. Say.

A total of 261 paper cranes were made by the students, which were then mailed to Students Rebuild, where they would generate funds to rebuild Japan ($2 per crane � details at http://studentsrebuild.org/japan/ ...

Ms. Foy's dance troupe performs at the Gregorio Mara��n Hospital

Ms. Foy's dance class - "Shake, Rattle and Roll" - (Years 3 and 4) performed at the Gregorio Mara��n hospital yesterday to provide entertainment for the poorly children at the hospital.

They brought the entire children's ward alive with their energy, enthusiasm and gyrating moves!

Some of the patients forgot where they were for a few moments and despite themselves, clapped and smiled - the dancers' smiles were contagious!

Ms. Foy, Ms. Kenny, Lauren Watson and Mr. Say managed to rein in the girls' enthusiasm and channel their energy in the right direction. It was an evening where every mother and teacher present felt truly proud of the exemplary behaviour of our Runnymede students! Many thanks especially to Ms. Foy for her efforts in putting the show together.

Tabnabbing

"Tabnabbing" is the term for a new kind of attack, which can be summarized as grabbing a Web browser tab when you aren't looking and making it appear as another site.

Aza Raskin, lead designer for Firefox, created a page that illustrates this. If you click on that link and then ignore it for a while (create and switch to another tab), Aza's page will turn into a lookalike for Gmail. You would then be tempted to fill in your username and address to access your account, believing that the page had timed out. The page would then save this information for whatever malicious purpose and send you to the real Gmail page so you would not know that you had just disclosed your username and password. Aza claims this will work in "all major browsers," and it has been confirmed in Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox.

Aza's example isn't too difficult to spot; if you look at the Address Bar you will see this URL still points to his domain, but he could easily redirect you to a non-Latin domain name that looks like a different website which would be harder to spot. His example takes you to a Gmail lookalike but it could be Facebook or any other high profile site.

What should you do to protect yourself? If you use Firefox, use the Account Manager feature that is supposed to help protect you from this kind of attack. If you use another browser, double-check the address in the toolbar before typing in your username and password. ...

Access to the Noticeboard

If your email address has changed please notify the school so that your request can be approved, giving you access to the private sections.
