Sponsored Run Senior School 09Thursday the 23rd of April was marked by a very moving event: the Sponsored Run. Under brilliant sunshine (no small feat in itself this year!) the whole of Runnymede came together to run for Adelante África, stretching their stamina to the limit in order to raise funds to build a school in Uganda. The Junior School ran to the beat of African music in the school football pitch, accompanied by mothers who sportingly dressed up as lions and elephants in keeping with the African theme! The Senior School ran in the Polideportivo de Alcobendas for a maximum of 40 minutes, in which time some pupils managed a record-setting 24 laps (much to the horror of many unsuspecting family members and friends who had sponsored them generously per lap they ran!). Most memorable was the fact that so many teachers from Senior School ran with the students, inspiring the latter to run harder, faster, longer than them! All in all it was a huge success and reminded us all that whatever our differences may be, when it comes down to the crunch, Runnymede is a close-knit family where all members support each other unconditionally. Special thanks go to the teachers of Runnymede College for their whole-hearted support of the event. Choose a thumbnail to view a full size picture |
