A Tricky Chess Triumph

24 Runnymede students from Years 4 to 7 attended the Open Chess Tournament last week, battling in their groups of four against top opponents from other schools in Madrid to secure first place and keep their names on the trophy.

In the end, their hours of dedication, strategy and problem solving paid off and the first team came joint first. Another of our teams secured third place and all involved played admirably well.

The tournament took place in a huge hall in Aldeafuente and lasted an entire day, with a little light relief provided by a magician, who performed for the students in the afternoon.

The students were also excited to be joined by the Spanish Chess Champion who no doubt passed on some words of encouragement.

Well done to all involved.
