On Saturday 21st April the XXII Concurso de Primavera de Matemáticas was held at the Facultad de Matemáticas UCM. This is an annual celebration of mathematics organised by the Comunidad de Madrid and the Complutense University. Over 3000 students from all over the Comunidad de Madrid participated in the second round on Saturday, after having first been selected by their schools. There are four levels and two pupils from Runnymede placed within the top 30 participants for their respective categories. They had to solve 25 mathematical problems in 90 minutes.
Alec in Year 6 (competing against students in Years 6 and 7) and Daniel in Year 10 (competing against students in Years 10 and 11) did extremely well, both ranking within the top 30. Along with all the other contestants in the top 30, they received their certificate and prizes at a special ceremony attended by their parents and teachers.
