Examinations Officer

Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of three to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum.

We are an excellent and well established school based in Madrid looking to recruit an Examinations Officer and University/Careers Advisor.

The role is split into two parts:

Examinations Officer

Responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to strict exam policies as outlined by various UK exam boards
  • Managing the examination entry process and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Managing the examination process and acting as school invigilator for public exams (IGCSE’s, A Levels)
  • Managing examination days according to exam board regulations (preparation of exam rooms, training invigilators, ensuring students follow regulations, acting as the “go to” person for any problem)
  • Managing physical and electronic examination scripts/documentation with the strictest confidentiality, discretion and security (includes storing and sending physical documentation in a secure manner)
  • Managing examination results and dealing with post results services
  • Issuing examination certificates
  • Liaising with students, teachers and parents to provide guidance with regard to public exams
  • Helping with any other ad hoc exams as required (FCE & IELTS registration)
  • Updating the school information system (SIMS)

University/Careers Advisor:

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting final year students with international University applications and administration (personal statements, UCAS systems, grade transcripts, etc.)
  • Researching University courses to ensure knowledge is up to date
  • Providing career guidance for final year students and discuss options
  • Communicating with international Universities as required
  • Organising and or assisting with University visits
  • Supporting students throughout the university applications process

Successful applicants should:

  • be a native level English speaker
  • have previous work experience in a similar
  • be familiar with the British curriculum, IGCSE and A Level examinations and university systems (e.g. UCAS, Common App, UNED, etc)
  • be able to work on a Mac computer and be able to use Microsoft Excel (or equivalent) with ease.
  • have knowledge/experience of using SIMS
  • have a degree from a British university

The ideal candidate will:

  • be meticulously organised and pay exceptional attention to detail
  • need to be able to cope with stressful situations and deadlines
  • be able to develop trusted relationships with the students
  • have an approachable, friendly manner

Other preferable but not essential criteria:

  • knowledge of Spanish

Systems Administrator and IT Coordinator

Bilingual Management & Communications Assistant

This is a hands on, multifaceted role with a wide range of responsibilities. These include:

  • Assistant to the Projects Director
    • Assist with any ad hoc project as required (compiling excel reports, market research, presentations and following up ongoing projects)
    • Assist with campus development project (including interacting with architects and researching design features)
    • Assist with budget planning and reporting (interacting with Bursars and Financial advisors)
    • Assist with design and implementation of efficiency improvement strategies (including order and facilities management procedures).
  • Community Manager
    • Effectively manage the school social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), produce content in line with the school ethos, liaise with teachers via slack with regard to social media content, ensure the website is kept up to date and adding relevant content as required, coordinate with the IT programmer responsible for the website, communicate with the subcontracted marketing agency to produce marketing materials such as brochures and prospectus in line with school design, assist with the presentation of the school newspaper.
  • Alumni Relations
    • Reach out to alumni and ensure that the database is kept up to date (Excel)
    • Organise and send mass mailings using Mail Chimp
    • Communicate with alumni with regard to work placements and internships as well as arranging for them to come to speak to pupils
    • Organise alumni events
  • Facilities Management
    • Coordinate the maintenance staff
    • Maintenance issues are reported by school staff through slack
    • Register incidents and coordinate with Bursar if an invoice is required

    Successful applicants should:

Teacher of IGCSE, A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics from September 2019

Academic levels are high at Runnymede College. In June 2018 63% of our students achieved A-A* at A Level which meant eight of our pupils gained places at Oxford and a further thirteen at Imperial College, UCL, LSE and Edinburgh. Most of our graduates choose to study in the UK, Spain or the US although other destinations such as France, Switzerland and Holland are also considered.

The school is looking to recruit an outstanding Maths teacher of IGCSE, A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics to join their Senior School team for September 2019.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced individual with the ability to teach up to A Level Further Mathematics (new specification), including Decision Mathematics 1 and Further Mechanics 1 as the two options for Further Mathematics. Subject knowledge must be very secure. The successful candidate will be passionate about Mathematics and be committed to achieving the very best for pupils at all levels. They will be able to engage and motivate pupils using effective methods of teaching and differentiation.

The ideal candidate will be able to plan and deliver lessons for students from Year 7 to 13. We follow a CIMT scheme of work for KS3 (Year 7 to Year 8 ), the Cambridge IGCSE - taught over three years (Year 9 to Year 11) and linear two year Edexcel A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics courses in the Sixth Form.

Currently there are seven teachers in the Mathematics department with two experienced teachers dedicated to Further Maths. Mathematics is a popular subject in the Sixth Form with numbers on the increase. We work with reduced class sizes in order to maintain the fast pace.

The successful applicant will have:

  • a good honours degree from a British University
  • a PGCE or other qualified teacher status for secondary Mathematics teaching
  • recent experience as a teacher in a school in the UK
  • recent experience teaching Maths IGCSE, A Level and Further Maths A Level
  • excellent teamwork skills and be willing to collaborate on planning and resourcing
  • the ability to modify learning strategies to target the needs of individual students
  • high expectations of pupils’ effort and behaviour, and facilitate this with proven classroom management skills
  • be organised and able to prioritise to meet deadlines
  • be motivated and use initiative to contribute to success of the department
  • be a native level english speaker
  • possess valid references, and have an up to date CRB/DBS check
  • have a good working knowledge of ICT systems and the application of ICT in the classroom

Other preferable but not essential criteria:

  • Previous experience of an international school
  • Knowledge or experience of the Additional Mathematics IGCSE course

Biology teacher from September 2019

The school is looking to recruit an outstanding Biology teacher to join our senior school team in September 2019.
The appointed teacher will be expected to teach mostly IGCSE biology with some Key Stage 3 science, although some A level biology teaching opportunities may become available to the right candidate.

Part-time Laboratory Assistant from September 2019

General terms and conditions of employment

  • Contracts
    All employees of the school - unless they are doing a maternity cover - are on permanent contracts (Contrato de Duración Indefinida).
  • Social Security
    The School pays Social Security contributions for all its employees; this entitles employees to full free medical cover, contribution to state pension and unemployment benefit.
  • Salaries
    Staff at Runnymede College are paid very competitive salaries by local standards. All new members of staff receive a € 1,000 settling-in allowance for those moving from outside Spain.
  • Holidays
    Summer: July and August. Christmas: just over two weeks. Easter: two weeks. Half terms: one week in the first term (end of October / beginning of November) and one week in February. There is no half term in the third term due to the large number of public holidays. Teachers are not expected to work in summer schools.
  • Accommodation
    Although the School does not provide accommodation and does not contribute to defraying the cost of accommodation, new members of staff are helped to find a suitable home by the School.
