Head of Department - A Level Economics teacher (September 2020)

Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of three to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum.

Founded as a private school in September 1967, the primary school was inaugurated in 1987, and since 1990, the whole School has been situated in La Moraleja, a residential estate 13 km to the north of Madrid.

Academic levels are high at Runnymede College. This year 60% of our students achieved A-A* at A Level which meant four of our pupils gained places at Oxford. Another four students have chosen to study at Imperial College London, and another three are going to study at Edinburgh. 81% of our Y13s are now at UK universities. The remaining students have been accepten into top universities in the USA, Spain and Italy.

There are close to 200 pupils in the VI Form and Economics is a popular subject as many choose to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at university.

The school is looking to recruit an A Level Economics teacher as Head of Department to join their Senior School team for September 2020.

The successful applicant will have:

  • a good honours degree from a British University
  • a PGCE or other qualified teacher status for secondary teaching
  • recent experience as an A Level Economics teacher in a school in the UK
  • the ability to modify learning strategies to target the needs of individual students
  • high expectations of pupils’ effort and behaviour, and facilitate this with proven classroom management skills
  • be a native English speaker
  • possess valid references, and have an up to date CRB/DBS check
  • have a good working knowledge of ICT systems and the application of ICT in the classroom
  • previous experience working with SIMS

Other preferable but not essential criteria:

  • Previous experience of an international school
  • Previous experience in Middle Management

Teaching Assistant for KS1

We are an excellent and well established school in Madrid looking to recruit an outstanding teaching assistant to join our KS1 team as soon as possible. This positio is to cover a maternity leave but also with a view to a permanent position from September 2020 for the right candidate.

Successful applicants must be native English speakers and should have:

  • NNEB certificate, NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Learning & Development or Cache Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education or equivalent
  • knowledge of the 2014 Primary Framework
  • a passion for education
  • the ability to work positively and successfully within a team
  • the ability to work with individual children, groups or supporting the teacher within the classroom
  • experience in the teaching of phonics
  • or any other relevant experience of working with children in a school setting

The school is looking to recruit an outstanding Teaching Assistant for Reception to join the Junior School team for January 2020.

Successful applicants must be native level English speakers and should have:

  • NNEB certificate, NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Learning & Development or Cache Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education or equivalent
  • in-depth knowledge of the EYFS framework
  • a passion for Early Years is essential

General terms and conditions of employment

  • Contracts
    All employees of the school - unless they are doing a maternity cover - are on permanent contracts (Contrato de Duración Indefinida).
  • Social Security
    The School pays Social Security contributions for all its employees; this entitles employees to full free medical cover, contribution to state pension and unemployment benefit.
  • Salaries
    Staff at Runnymede College are paid very competitive salaries by local standards. All new members of staff receive a € 1,000 settling-in allowance for those moving from outside Spain.
  • Holidays
    Summer: July and August. Christmas: just over two weeks. Easter: two weeks. Half terms: one week in the first term (end of October / beginning of November) and one week in February. There is no half term in the third term due to the large number of public holidays. Teachers are not expected to work in summer schools.
  • Accommodation
    Although the School does not provide accommodation and does not contribute to defraying the cost of accommodation, new members of staff are helped to find a suitable home by the School.
